What a wonderful surprise it was for the iThemba Academy when Blane Gaugain, Store Manager for Woolworths Lillies Quarter, arrived with Jackie Hardien, Woolworths Relationship Manager, to hand over a generous donation to the school.

Great golf for our place of hope
Focus on iThemba's prestigious annual Golf Day held at Kloof Country Club on 14 October was a great success. Many of the golfers commented on how well it was organised, what fun they had and how incredible the prizes were. This was our third Golf Day and there will definitely be a fourth next year.

The Board of Focus on iThemba are delighted with the recent announcement that the US based Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) has granted accreditation to Friends of iThemba, their US fundraising arm.

Afrocon supports iThemba
Local business has once again stepped up to support their community.  Afrocon Pty Ltd, a Civil Engineering company based in New Germany, has generously donated towards Focus on iThemba - a non-profit organisation based in Hillcrest.  The company were impressed by the iThemba programme and is optimistic about the positive change iThemba is making in young lives.

CLASSROOMS TAKE SHAPE
New epoxy floors, cupboards, computers and whiteboards are impressive additions to the two new iThemba Academy classrooms. Five companies recently opened their hearts to the Hillcrest foundation school ensuring that the place of learning is a wonderful environment.

GOGO TO RUN 89km FOR VULNERABLE CHILDREN
The iThemba project is wholly dependent on donor funding. We ask you to consider partnering with us in this worthwhile endeavour by sponsoring Cilla step by step during the 2011 Comrades Marathon. The event takes place on 29 May.

Three mountains in 48 hours
Six young men will be attempting to climb three mountains in the United Kingdom in the space of 48 hours to raise funds for Focus on iThemba. The ambitious team includes; George Greenwood (18), Liam Wilson (18), Charlie Neill (16), Ollie Neill (18), Luke Hubbard (18) and Josh Flowerday (18) and their drivers Stephen Neill and Mark Gooding.

Kloof High girls extend Etiquette tips
Four students from Kloof High School recently ran two ‘ Etiquette and Grooming Workshops’ at Focus on iThemba as part of their Community Outreach programme.   Tersia Williams, Nicole Heathcote, Tayla Canon and Tatum St Claire shared their grooming tips and knowledge to nine iThemba girls on 18 February and 5 March.

St Mary’s girls ‘Give Back’
At the end of last term a musical gathering was initiated by a few inspiring girls from leading high school St Mary’s DSG. The purpose of this was to raise funds for Focus on iThemba.

First day and new classrooms
The iThemba Academy children started the new year with a wonderful improvement to their school.  Two new classrooms were built as a result of a generous donation from ‘Ein Herz für Kinder ‘a German organisation.
