MESSAGE FROM THE
FOCUS ON iTHEMBA
CHAIRMAN

If you plant for a day you plant flowers, if you plant for years then you plant trees but if you plant for eternity then you plant ideas and time in the lives of young people.

These words clearly remind me of what we are trying to
achieve at Focus on iThemba and the deep impact we strive to make.
One can get overwhelmed with the severity of the
challenges in our country. Disease, poverty and the breakdown of the family unit and of course, the children who are sadly, the direct victims.
When I reflect on the fact that we have recently welcomed three new children into our loving homes, I am overjoyed that we now have the opportunity to turn three new lives around.
To plant ideas of hope into these young lives and who will in turn pass these onto their future generations.
It is still incredible to think that these young children not so long ago were living in abusive situations, some without shelter, destitute and with no-one to care for them. Often hungry and not knowing where their next morsel of food was going to come from, while living in make shift homes struggling to survive.
I cannot imagine being a child without love or anyone to depend on.
However, these same children now have the stability of a Mom AND a Dad, a beautiful home to live in, nutritious meals, excellent education and most importantly the opportunity, love and choice, that you and I had the privilege of enjoying when growing up.
However, in these difficult economic times, we feel the tremendous burden of ensuring that these dear children who have been so let down by society will not be devastated again.
We cannot let that happen. If ever the children at Focus on iThemba needed the help of faithful generous hearts, it is now!
We look forward to hearing from you and ask you to please continue to support us and to share our stories of hope with your friends, work colleagues and family.

Warm regards

Danie van den Heever

TRANSNET CAPITAL PROJECTS SUPPORTS iTHEMBAKIDS

A recent generous donation from Transnet Capital Projects has been
allocated towards sustaining two of our foster children in their home, as well as allowing two underprivileged community children to attend the iThemba Academy. Deirdre Tholet, Communications Manager at Transnet Capital Projects, said the company is privileged to support children who have not been given the opportunity of love and an excellent education.
"We are proud to partner with caring organisations. An opportunity like this gives hope to children who would otherwise have lead desperate lives," she said.
We thank the team at Transnet Capital Projects who have generously assisted us in our vision to grow future leaders by nurturing orphaned and vulnerable children in families where they have the essential role models of both a Mom and a Dad.
